Tianjin TV News:
“Governor Dai XiangLong met with a high level investment delegation”

A finance delegation, whose members include Chief Executive Officers from major world investment institutions, came to visit Tianjin yesterday. Major Dai Xianglong met with the delegation and presented them an overall picture of Tianjin. Both sides have made an in-depth discussion on the issues of collaboration in finance and investment.

Dai XiangLong said: According to the view of the scientific development, Tianjin is now in the process of implementing a three-step strategic plan and is determined to take the lead in modernization in China. In order to do well, it is crucial for us to maintain a stable and sustained investment scale. A 1500 billion Yuan fixed asset investment is needed cumulatively for Tianjin from 2003 to 2010, according to estimates.

To meet this demand, Tianjin is now encouraging all the industries to increase their free capital flow through methods like depreciation of their fixed assets, raising profits, bringing in investment capital and increasing stock shares. At the same time, in order to establish our modern finance system and invigorate our financial institutions, Tianjin has strong desire to play a leading role in the country in establishing funds for manufacturing investment and also in developing industrial clusters.

Thus, we sincerely hope knowledgeable finance people like your delegation will understand Tianjin’s developmental potential and advantages after conducting a thorough investigation and study. We would also hope you could fully use your own special skills to enhance collaboration with us in the finance and investment areas and actively participate in the development of Tianjin.

Governor Dai then presented the delegation a comprehensive view of Tianjin’s current development and its future plan. Both sides discussed and exchanged opinions about fields like BoHai (Sea) District development; water resource usage; energy situation and how to attract more capital investment.

William Anawaty said: We have paid particular attention to the BoHai (Sea) District development and we have shown strong interest in the future of this region. During our brief stay here, Tianjin has given us a very nice and profound impression. We sense the tremendous potential and enormous business opportunities through our own eyes and we are eager to explore further collaboration with you.

The members of this delegation are high ranking executives from well known US and European financial institutions, such as:

ANARI Worldview, Inc.,
Ford Foundation,
Wellington Management Co.,
ABP Pension Investment,
Deutschebank,
Acadian Asset Management
Gersten Savage law firm

The head of the delegation, William Anawaty, was a senior officer in US Treasury Department and now is the president of ANARI WorldView, Inc.. He provides useful consulting service to world institutional investors, and he also serves as a consultant to the IIF (Institute of International Finance) in Washington DC.
